The Childhood photographs were taken between 2001 and 2008. During those years I constantly documented the lives of my cousins. I was captivated by their make believe world, by the things that they found important and by the magic that they infused into everything that surrounded them. At the same time, it was obvious to me that their world was not candy coated: there was a certain cruelty in how they learnt to deal with others and the world around them.

By observing the gamut of emotions that young girls experience, I became fascinated by the contrast between the myth of childhood and its much more complex reality. That is what I strived to capture in my photographs.
